World Championship Beach Marathon

Tomorrow I will run the World Championship Beach Half Marathon in Cocoa Beach, Florida.  It will be my first long distance race on sand.  I plan to run in my barefoot shoes.  The most I have ever run in those shoes is 5 miles.  The Half Marathon will be 13.1 miles.  It will be my 9th marathon, half and full of the year.  Miami Marathon, Melbourne Marathon Relay, A1A Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon, Gasparilla Half Marathon, Miami Beach 13.1, Gulf Coast Half Marathon, Chicago Half Marathon, Atlanta 13.1, Halloweenathon, Beach Half Marathon, Space Coast Half Marathon and end with Palm Beaches Full Marathon - all to raise $11,000 for GUA Africa's Emma Academy - www.runfogguaafrica.com .

Around the World on A Beach

Early, this morning I went out for a training run on New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Despite the Florida heat, there was a nice breeze off the ocean.  It was my first long distance run in barefoot shoes and I felt filled with energy.  As I ran in the morning silence, only five or six surfers were in the ocean and only a few people were walking or running the beach.  At this early hour, I was full of energy.  While I was running, I remembered running in Chicago, New York City, Miami and Michigan.  Then, I remembered running in Geneva and Zurich, Switzerland, Paris, Vienna, London and Breda, Netherlands.  I felt a part of the world – right sized.  People like me often feel better than the world or far worse than the world, but rarely perfectly fitted in the world.  When I run, I am neither at front or the end; I am just a guy running for kids in Africa.  It’s bliss.

Touche the kid is gonna be ok

I was running this morning around Lake Eola, thinking about people who die before their time. I ran past the spot where this woman Jill sold organic herbs every Saturday. She was a diva who died of my disease. Wisin & Yandel " Touche the kid is gonna be ok" They said it about me. They were right. I am going to be ok. So are you...

Keep Going

This morning I went out for a run at 6:30am. Fall has definitely arrived because it was still dark, but the light came and the sky was indescribably beautful. It is truly a great day to be alive...and nothing good has happened yet. Imagine when that happens!!
